Conqueror

Conqueror of all that stands in its way,
Beguiling, belying, and misleading,
Casting its victim into disarray
The powers it holds are unrelenting.
Some see it as a dangerous thief
Because it can easily steal one’s will.
The capture is either gentle and brief
Or is more brutal and never still.
It causes men to change their behavior
And women to change their appearance,
In the hopes of gaining one’s favor
Even for something simple like a dance.
Although, at times it must be admitted
That love is beaten and unrequited.
