Demons and Fallen Angels Part 3
While Vog and Fiona began to set out for their destination, they were not the only ones getting ready for what was yet to come. Outside of Fionas house, one block down the street, a man stood talking on his cell phone. Normally, despite the hour, this may not have seemed strange. However, since it was raining and thundering out, it did seem a little odd. That, and the fact his was only wearing shorts and a black T-shirt. He seemed completely soaked as if he had been standing there for a long time. His short, brown hair was wet, and he shivered constantly from the cold.
Sir? Can you hear me? said the man nearly shouting into his cell phone. Not waiting for a response, he said, I think the bat is getting ready to fly. Send in some back up A.S.A.P.
Dack, would you shut up! shouted whoever was on the other side of the phone. And for the last time, you dont need to use code!!! If anyone overhears you, theyll just think youre crazy! Besides, if you dont want to be overheard, quit shouting!
Sorry sir, said Dack as he lowered his voice to a whisper. Im just so excited, we finally found one! Dack began to speak louder again, and soon he was nearly shouting. That guy was right, well have to thank-
Dont say his name, said the voice on the other side of the cell phone. The informant doesnt take kindly to being called upon when he isnt needed. Stop your babbling anyways, its starting to wear on my nerves.
Yes sir, said Dack as he sighed. His upbeat mood had been temporarily crushed. What do you want me to do sir?
Okay, Im sending some more guys your way. Youre to keep him occupied until the help shows up, alright?
Yes sir! said Dack. With that, he hung up the phone and put it in his pocket. Ill get them
he said, trying to reassure himself. Dack pulled out a pair of binoculars and saw Fionas door open, and he cursed silently.
Ah crap! he said as he whipped out the cell phone again. I hope the help gets here soon!
Vog was opening the door trying to coax Fiona into coming along without making her cry anymore, and he was almost succeeding in this when he felt something strange. He stopped where he was and Fiona, who wasnt paying attention, bumped into him.
Hey, whats- Fiona began, but Vog quickly put his hand over her mouth and made a shushing noise. Fiona blinked and looked around, but she could barely see anything in the darkness.
Fiona, get back inside your house, now! said Vog suddenly as he pushed her back. When she began to open her mouth to argue, Vog quickly said, Look, its stuff like from the other day. Unless you feel like seeing something like that again
Fiona was confused for a moment; then she realized what Vog meant. All the color seemed to drain from her face and she quickly shut the door and locked it. Vog chuckled at little to himself, amused by her fear. Then he shouted, I know youre out there. Why dont you save both of us some time and stop hiding already!
Vog felt it before he saw the shadows appear. Each one was only a small circle, no bigger than a trash can lid, seemingly harmless, but Vog knew better. Vog walked away from Fionas house a bit, and the shadows formed a circle around him.
The shadows fused together, and a horrid moaning sound could be heard as things began climbing out of the circle that was directly in front of him. Vog watched this for a moment and sighed. Zombies? Are you kidding me? he said. He grumbled for a moment.
The zombies began to lurch forward, so Vog shrugged and charged them. Dont even really need to try for this group, he muttered. Then, he punched a zombie in the face. Another, he kicked in the shin, and he laughed as its leg collapsed. Come on, he said to the zombies, you guys are pathetic!
The zombies still tried to attack him, but he managed to dispatch them easily. They moved so slowly that he could easily out maneuver them. After the last one fell, the shadow under the zombies glowed and they disappeared. Vog shook his head. Okay, he said, who was stupid enough to send zombies after me?
Vog listened carefully and heard some cursing coming from down the block, and someone frantically dialing on a cell phone. Serpent take you, could you be any more stupid? Vog pondered to himself as he started to run towards where the sounds had come from.
Sir, hes taken the bait completely! Dack said excitedly on the phone. In fact, I think hes coming over right now, talk to you later sir. As Dack said this, he quickly closed the cell phone and put it in one of his pockets. Despite his cheerfulness on the phone, Dack felt his body temperature lower as he saw something running at him at a surprising speed.
Dack waited until he could see the young looking kid running at him. Then, he pulled out his cell phone and pressed numbers quickly. A bolt of lighting struck the cell phone, illuminating the area, and temporarily blinding Vog.
As Vog shielded his eyes, Dack attacked. He pressed a different set of numbers on his cell phone, and the antenna extended about 4 four feet. Dack swung the phone and the antenna cut Vogs shirt. Vog cried out in shock as he felt the cold metal slice open his chest.
The wound would have killed a human instantly, or soon after, but Vog hardly seemed fazed at all. He raised his eyebrow at his attacker and asked, So, were did you get a phone like that?
Dack smiled, foolishly thinking that he still had the advantage. Tell you what, he said naively, Ill tell you where I got it if you give up now. I wont hit you again, how does that sound?
Vog looked at the guy and laughed. Mortal, Vog said as his voice suddenly turned cold and emotionless. I really dont have time for you. Vog placed his right hand on the wound. Grunting, he shoved his hand into the new wound.
Its funny, Vog said as he pulled his hand away from his chest. His hand was covered in blood, but he didnt seem to notice. You seem to have no idea about how out classed you are.
With that, Vog tossed the handful of blood at his attacker. Dack slashed at it with his phone, but this didnt really help much. The blood landed right on Dacks face, blinding him.
That, said Vog, is returning the first favor. Vogs wound began to glow and he grinned evilly. The blood that had steadily been leaking out of the wound stopped, and pulled away from his body. Floating in front of Vog was a sphere of blood.
Now, he said as he put his right hand into the sphere, I get to repay the second favor
He seemed to grab something within the sphere; then he pulled his right out of the sphere.
The sphere began to flatten out and grow longer. The tip of it became sharp, and it became apparent that the sphere had become a sword of some sort. The sword was dark red, and not to fancy. It just appeared to be a regular sword that just happened to be red. Nothing to fancy, Vog muttered, I dont feel like wasting much blood on you.
Dack had finally gotten the blood off of his face just in time to see Vog swing the sword. Dack fell to the ground and screamed as he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He dropped his cell phone and it shattered as it landed on the sidewalk.
Vog slowly pulled his sword out of his foes body and laughed as he licked the blood off of the sword. Now, are you going to tell me who you are? I promise not to strike you again, he said in the most scornful voice he could manage.
Dack gasped for breath and averted his eyes from Vog. Vog grabbed Dacks face and forced him to look into his eyes. Why did you attack me? Vog demanded, forcing all of his rage into that question.
Dack moaned in mental agony and clutched his head. I
I
he tried to say, but he began to cough uncontrollably. Dacks face went blank suddenly, and the life faded from his eyes.
Huh? said Vog. He quickly dropped Dacks body and watched as it began to rapidly decay. Damn it! he shouted, How I am I supposed to figure anything out now? Argh!!!
With that, now that he was completely enraged, he began to walk towards Fionas house. He mumbled to himself and cursed a bit. While he walked away, he didnt notice that Dacks body completely vanished. Then, the broken cells screen suddenly lit up.
Fiona was waiting as patiently as she could for Vog to return. She stood away from the door, hoping that he would not be too long. He wasnt. Fiona heard the knocking on her door, and she asked, Is that you Vog?
More or less, he replied. His voice betrayed his irritation. Hurry up and get out of there. Im ready to leave.
Wait, cant I just-
NOW! Vog shouted. The sooner you get out here, the sooner I can get you to Erza before she gets even more furious!
Fiona didnt bother arguing, Vogs voice had left no room for debate. So, she quickly grabbed her backpack, which held everything she considered worthwhile to her, and opened the door. She stopped in mid-step, dropped her stuff, and gasped.
At first, she couldnt believe what she was seeing. It seemed impossible. Standing before her was Vog, but he looked much different now.
His shirt had been ripped, and he was bleeding, but thats not what caught her attention. Seemingly growing out of Vogs back were two giant, red wings! She found herself staring at them, confused and alarmed.
The wings seemed to be made out of a liquid of some kind. They rippled as he stepped forward. Vog smiled, amused by her surprise. Come here, he said as sweetly as he could manage, trying not to let the hunger seep into his voice. A little closer, he said quieter, as if to himself.
If Fiona would have come just a little closer at that time, Vog surely would have killed her and drained her body of all her blood. He would have done this despite how damned he would be for it. Vog had lost all of his self-control.
Instead of stepping forward, Fiona took a step back from the door and shivered. Vogs face contorted and he howled in rage. Vog charged straight at her, his sharp fangs bared. Fiona screamed and cringed away; she was too scared to look death in the eye.
However, instead of dying, Fiona heard a strange, loud sound. THUD! Fiona cautiously opened her eyes and was once again amazed by what she saw. Vog was stuck in the door way! His body seemed to convulse, and then he was throw backwards by an invisible force.
After this, Fiona couldnt see Vog for a few moments. She stood there confused and scared. She listened to the silence, disturbed by how clam it was despite what had just happened.
A-hem, said Vogs all-to-familiar voice, forgive me for that. As this was said, Vog stepped into Fionas line of vision.
Forgive you? Fiona said once quietly to herself. Than, much louder, Forgive you?!? You tried to kill me! She shouted.
And you havent ever made a mistake in your life before? asked Vog.
Mistake? Are you crazy? I could have died! Fiona screamed. Gathering her courage, she took a step forward and pointed at him. How do I know you wont kill me as soon as I walk outside?
Because, said Vog, of this! Vogs arm moved quickly and grabbed Fionas arm that was pointing at him. With hardly any effort at all, he pulled her outside.
Now, Vog said, are you going to be this annoying the whole way?
You
Fiona stuttered. Her brain had only partly registered what had just happened. One moment she was inside, the next she wasnt.
Listen, Vog said, before I say anything else, let me make this perfectly clear to you. Number one: As you can see right now, I could kill anytime I feel like it. Number two: Sometimes
I get lost in myself. I lose all trace of humanity and act like a beast. I guess its extreme bloodlust. If you want to leave, you have to go with me. If you go come now while I have it under control, you will not die. If you wait, I can not guarantee I can fight of my hunger.
Vog laughed after he said the last thing. Fiona starred at him. She was amazed about how open he was about this, how he acted like her life was inconsequential. Fiona had an epiphany than: it seemed as if her days were numbered.
Hey, pay attention will you? Vog shouted angrily. I am really running behind, and I do think that Erza will be most displeased with me already. As he said this, he lifted Fiona into his arms. It will be faster this way, Vog said, silencing any protests she had. Besides, I can assure you that this will be an experience that will not be easily forgotten. With that, Vog grabbed Fionas other things with a blood-tail he had created. He flapped his wings, and then ascended into the night sky.
So, thats whats left of him, eh? asked a strange man as he looked at the cell phone on the ground.
Foolish of him really, said the woman standing next to him. If that vampire had destroyed the phone completely, he would have died.
Didnt really have much of a choice, did he? It was that or die. I aint gonna judge him to hard; I know what I would have done.
Must you insistent on using such terrible language? asked the woman as she shook her head.
I havent changed in over a hundred years, so dont be expecting no miracles, the man spat as he said this for emphasis. Besides, it aint how I talk that matters to him.
I really have no interest in this conversation anymore. Whether we should help him or not is what really matters.
Normally, Id say leave him tuh die, but it aint my choice.
Aint is not a word
Whatever. I think it would be proper of us to give him a helping hand. Then we can find out exactly what happened.
Precisely what I was thinking. For now, you get him out of here. I am going to see if I can find any traces to where the vampire fled to.
Kay, the man said as he lifted up the cell phone. Anything else youll be needing, or can I go?
You may take your leave, she said as she dismissed him with a shooing motion. I have a lot of work to do
This is
absolutely amazing! Fiona shouted over the wind.
Really? asked Vog surprised. Why?
Well, for starters, were flying! she screamed as she spread her arms to feel the wind. Down below, she could see some lights from what she thought was her home town, but she couldnt be sure. Its just feels so great!
It doesnt take much to please you mortals, Vog said as he rolled his eyes.
Well excuse me, but its not like I get to do this kind of thing all the time, said Fiona. She tried to sound angry, but she was enjoying herself way to much to care about Vogs view of humanity for a moment. Hey, I have a favor to ask
What is that you could possibly want know? asked Vog.
Could you do a flip? Just a little one. Please?
Are you sure about this? You have any idea how far it is if I drop you?
I dont think that you would do that
Fine, said Vog disgustedly. If you die, dont come crying to me. Hold on then. He changed the angle of his wings a bit, and up they went. For awhile, it seemed as if he was flying straight up, but eventually he finished the loop after what seemed like a circle.
Smiling evilly, Vog asked, See, you were sacred. Do not say that you were not warned.
Actually, replied Fiona as she pushed her hair out of her face, I kind of enjoyed that.
Vog was more than a little surprised by this. You are very strange for a mortal
but then again, people have always thought that about you, Vog said trying to annoy her in a different way.
I would prefer it if you stopped bringing up memories you looked at, grumbled Fiona.
Fine, said Vog, but you had to admit that the first grade talent show was pretty funny. Ive never seen-
Okay, you really need to shut up. Now!
Vog smiled to himself. Mission accomplished. Now, the rest of the journey would be in silence, Vog thought. Unfortunately for him, his victory was only short lived. About five minutes after his last comment, Fiona decided to try starting a conversation.
So, how long have you been terrorizing the night and anyone unfortunate enough to come across you? asked Fiona.
Far longer than you would ever care to hear about, said Vog, hoping to sidetrack Fiona.
Seriously, how long have you been a vampire?
Well, I was turned at about 18, and this year Ill be
wow, nearly 85..."
So, you were turned into a vampire around WWII?
Yep
sure want to hear this?
Why wouldnt I?
Because, it doesnt concern you in the least bit at all. And, as all things concerning my kind, it's kind os disgusting."
Maybe it doesnt, but itll bug me till I find out. Besides, fair is fair. You got a look into my mind. Now, I want to see whats inside yours.
Seeing this as the perfect opportunity to shut Fiona up, Vog took it. Ill tell you, but wait till they end to make any comments, alright? That and you have to promise to drop the whole you looked in my mind think, alright mortal? It is beginning to grate on my nerves.
Fine, now tell me already!
Vog began to fly lower because they had just about reached their destination. However, his mind was miles away, back when he had first encountered a vampire and discovered the true night life. He sighed, Like most good stories of that involves vampires, my story does not have a happy ending
at least, not yet.
